Sen Abbo: Local or State chapters does not have the power to expel an official- Adamawa APC clarifies

....stakeholders chide the decision of Mubi North APC

The suspension of Mr. Elisha Ishaku Abbo, the Senator representing Adamawa North has caused an uproar reaction within and outside the All Progressives Congress, APC, family of the state.

Many have described the disciplinary committee to have failed by not thinking out of the box considering the fact that 2023 elections are just by the corner.

The decision of Mubi North APC against Abbo has made political commentators to gave a ridiculous statements that APC may never reclaim Adamawa state.

In a way of clarity the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Muhammad Abdullahi in a statement said that neither Local nor state officials have the power to suspend a party member.

Abdullahi said this to draw the attention of the Local Government officials of the party who suspended Abbo, a sitting Senator with the party's ticket for the 2023 coming election.

He revealed that the Mubi North officials are yet to relate to the State Chapter on the subject matter.

He however clarified that: "for clarification based on  Article 21.5 (ii) & (iii) the power to Expel a Party official, a Political appointee or a member of a legislative house is vested on the National Executive Committee whose decision is final. The power of the Local Govts and State Chapters is only limited to the recommendation to NEC."

Also negating the action taken by the local chapter, a one-time pioneer North East national vice chairman of the party, Mallam Umar Duhu said the branch of the Party has no constitutional power to expel any member from the Party, except the National Convention.

Umar further revealed that the best Mubi North officials could do is to suspend a member and recommend any other steps taken to the State Chapter and in turn to the National Executive Committee for further adjudication.

Another stakeholder who was the state party legal adviser, Barrister Pwamaddi Shagnah added that the action taken stands non and is void until the state chapter comes up with a clearer view.
