Sack Custom Boss, CBN Governor for Failing Nigerians , Northern Group Tells Buhari

Network for Election Education, Sensitization and Awareness has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack of Controller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali over recent attack on Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and its Group Chief Executive ,Mele Kyari .

According to the group, as a stakeholder in the oil and gas industry, it was regrettable to hear how the Controller General of Customs, Hameed Ali descended so low to attack the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Ltd. without a scientific evidence to buttress his claims.

Addressing journalists at his Kaduna office today , Engineer (Dr.) Kailani Muhammad said after a careful scrutiny of Ali’s allegations against the NNPC Ltd and its Group Chief Executive, Mele Kyari, it became vividly clear that the issues he raised were unscientific and devoid of any facts.

He explained:"The accusations he leveled merely suggested how desperate he was at covering his failings as Controller General of the Nigeria Custom Services due to his inability to tame the wide allegations of corruption in the service, as well as his poor handling of the nation’s borders.

"The Custom Services under him is regrettably in its worst period, unable to root out the corrupt practices and to manage the nation’s borders very well.

"At a point in time, a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Fadahunsi, and the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Customs Senator Fadahunsi had to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve Hameed Ali of his position in order to save the organization from further drift."

He However said ,"While the custom services continue to drift under Hameed Ali's watch who apparently uses “military approach” to the organization that requires professional handling, Kyari has positive things to offer to the country, hence the best option is to ease Hameed Ali out and have a professional that can manage the organization very well as a round peg in a round hole."

While noting that the NNPC is now a private venture, operating as a business body in line with the best global practices, he said Mele Kyari who has been driving the organization with efficiency, passion and determination to turn it around as one of the best Petroleum Company in the world is still holding forte, a development that is giving hope to every stakeholder in the industry and at international level.

He posited that the Kyari administration has propelled NNPC to greater heights and the organization is being run as a successful profit venture.

Kailani further disclosed At the recent United Nation General Assembly 77 UNGA77, Kyari has attracted International community who are willing to invest in the Nigeria gas project.

"The issue of zero carbon emission, the need for huge foreign investment in the development of gas as a transition fuel, the persistent oil theft in the Niger Delta region and how government laid out security architecture to reduce the menace associated with the oil production as well as the laying of gas pipelines in the African corridor were the dominant issues in his address at UNGA77.

"Most importantly, Kyari will continue with the advocacy in Africa as he is billed to attend Africa Oil Week in Cape Town, South Africa where issues of sustainable growth in a low carbon world would dominate discussions."

Similarly ,the group which is  Apparently worried about the dwindling fortune of  naira has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to fire the  Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr.  Godwin Emeifele.

According to the group, Emefiele  has failed to demonstrate competence to save the nation’s currency from further devaluation, making life so difficult to the common man.

It insisted that President Buhari should show him way out for his ineptitude, inefficiency and ineffective handling of the apex bank.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna on State of the nation ahead of the 2023 general elections , the National Chairman of Network for Election Education, Sensitization and Awareness Engineer(Dr.) Kailani Muhammad said the  management of the currency under the watch of  Godwin Emiefele, is to say the least disgusting.

Kailani who, expressed anger over the inability of the CBN Governor to find solutions to the problem , said the situation is becoming unbearable to the common man

For him,  it is unacceptable  that the  official exchange rate of Naira to a dollar now at above N400, while in the parallel market it reached up to N700 and heading towards N1,000 so rapidly

He however, commended the Senate for taking measure to address the problem .His words: "It is a welcome development that the Senate has moved positively to whittle down the powers of the CBN Governor by revisiting the law that established the Apex Bank.

"Now that the Senate has taken up the issue appropriately by moving to amend the law establishing the apex bank, Emeifele should either shape up or ship out honourably."

"He has apparently failed to rise to the challenges of his office. Rather than focus on making the nation’s currency strong in the global economy, he regrettably, at a time became so partisan politically by wanting to become the next president and was very unmindful of his responsibility as the head of the nation’s apex bank. Education Support: Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation setting pace for other NGOs in Nigeria

By Matthew Denis Abuja

The Chief Executive Officer, Median Infrastructure Development Company Limited, Olumide Akinsanya has described Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation as an Epitome in improving the Nigerian educational Sector.

Mr. Olumide Akinsanya who is one of the Trsutees lauded the commitment of the foundation in renovating schools across Kwara and lagos states.

Earlier, Princess Taiwo Oyepeju Ajisefinni Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of
Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation (TAF) Has explained that  the foundation was birthed following a visit she made to Nigeria in 2008 after observing the agony school children encounter.

She said "No matter how much I complained or lamented, I noticed that nothing changed and then it dawned on me that I, had to change. I had to stop complaining and do something. I had to bring that picture in my imagination to reality and that is what birthed the Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation (TAF). TAF has been set up to give hope to children and adults alike.

The Founder noted that her passion for education is to ensure that every child has access to quality education. After a few years of thinking about the best way to start, the foundation was registered in June ,2017 with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. TAF is also registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

She emphasized that the foundation seeks to provide educational support in various ways to children, especially those from indigent and underprivileged backgrounds.

"Our target is to reachout to as many schools as possible in Nigeria, especially those in rural communities. In 2016, TAF sponsored 19 people with physical disabilities by paying their fees to attend vocational courses to become solution providers in society.

"Our first school project was executed at a Primary school in Offa local Government of Kwara State were over 80 students benefited from the services we provided. Interestingly, since the completion of the first stage of the project in this school, parents, and relatives of children in the community and surrounding villages, have shown interest in enrolling their children in the school. The Foundation is also in the process of donating Lawn Tennis equipment to a school of over 2000 students in Ikeja, Lagos State.

She decried that there has been no collaboration yet with the government. However they are working towards collaborating with similar NGOs so that they can get a lot projects done for children in education to actualize the target and vision of the foundation.

" The plan towards collaborating with the government is in the pipeline as it is a means of delivering better results for all involved.

"Education is first and foremost not just the impartation of knowledge but also the assimilation of what is being taught and of life’s experiences. Quality education is therefore about the teacher and the taught: the student. Education is and always will be very important in building a strong foundation in one’s life. It is important that our children are educated, are up to date with current issues, and can provide knowledge to the next generation. Education is a strong building block in building a stronger and healthier community. As a community, it is our obligation to help a child develop their identity and be a contributing factor to society. We must refocus on the idea that a child is the centre of our community.

"The focus of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 is on ensuring that children have access to quality education and that the number of children that are out of school is reduced.

"With the number of out of school children announced by the federal government, evidence is showing that it has further recorded an impressive enrolment of school children in the last year. Therefore, more intervention from the government in synergy with Those, and like-minded individuals, there is bound to be more significant progress in the standard of education and learning outcomes.

"We plan to go anywhere we are needed, all over Nigeria. We are working on getting as many people as possible on board to be a support system and network for the NGO. Together, we will be able to do more. Our goal is to have stationed in every State, Taiwo Ajisefinni Foundation volunteer teams. They will be responsible for locating the communities and schools where support is needed and then go on to oversee the execution of all that is needed.

The philanthropist stressed that the Foundation seeks to provide wholesome support to schools.

'We aim to support everyone in the education chain – teachers and students alike. As we provide conducive learning atmospheres for the students, we will also ensure that the teachers have everything they need to provide quality education – training and teaching aids and ultimately achieve all learning outcomes. Our focus will be on ensuring that school children get a good education by making sure that the atmosphere is conducive to learning.
Together, we can give hope, support, educate and make a difference in the lives of school children one school at a time.

Stop Using Monetary Incentives To Recruit, Cause Divisions Amongst Christians, Northern Elders Warn Tinubu, APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been warned not to in their desperation for power, resort to causing division among Christians.

The warning was handed out in a statement issued by the Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF), signed by its chairman, Engineer Oyinehi Ejoga Inalegwu, dated Tuesday September 27, 2022.

"NOSCEF is concerned that apart from the failure of the desire of the architects of the single faith ticket, to cause serious divisions in the forthcoming elections, APC has resorted to clandestine ways of causing division in the body of Christ, by recruiting hitherto unknown bodies in the Body of Christ to counter decisions taken by the umbrella  body, CAN and its various organs.

"We warn APC to stop using Monetary incentives to recruit and cause divisions amongst the Christians, especially in the North," it said.

The group recalled that, "In 2011,  Bola Ahmed Tinubu sought Muslim -Muslim Ticket with  Atiku Abubakar and it  was rejected.

" in 2015, he again,  sought for a Muslim-Muslim Ticket with President Muhammadu Buhari and it was again rejected.

"Both Atiku and Muhammadu Buhari from the North, know  that having a Muslim from the South would not have added any electoral advantage," NOSCEF said.

The group pointed out that in December 2021,  Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with a  group in Abuja and sold the Muslim-Muslim Ticket.

"We warned that every
patriotic Presidential aspirant should avoid  same faith ticket to avoid  polarisation of the
nation further along religious lines.

"Before the Commencement of
the primaries, NOSCEF  again warned  Presidential aspirants against the  one faith ticket in a Nigeria begging for unity, inclusiveness, fairness and justice.

"Because there was a long term goal and a purpose to be accomplished, APC went ahead with the single faith venture, with the aim of riding on the wings of divisive religious politics to victory," the statement said.

The Northern Christian Elders expressed dismay over the show of shame the ruling party is involved in, following desperate efforts to attract public goodwill and acceptance, by engaging strange Christian groups for endorsement purposes.

"We frown   at the publicity they use to their advantage,  to make public ridicule of Christian bodies, particularly in the North, for the purpose of causing disaffection, just to win election.

"We all know as Christians, Muslims and people of other faith, that unity, fairness, justice and inclusiveness will engender National progress, rather than the war of divisive religious political game, intended through the instrumentation of same faith ticket.

"Christian and Muslim faithful should disappoint divisive self seeking politicians, who want to capitalize on our religious differences to gain political power," the statement stressed.

NOSCEF  pleaded that things should not get to that stage and those who are responsible, should take responsibility, rather than causing more divisions, for the mere purpose of winning an election.

"The Church is called upon to be circumspect, vigilante with the antics of politicians. Don't sell the church and don’t be used to cause disaffection, remember that
earthly  position and wealth mean nothing before the Almighty, before Whom, we will stand.
Pray earnestly for a peaceful campaign and election," the group said.

Prince Adebayo made this call on Tuesday when he attended the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Foundation 2022 Peace Conference at the NAF Conference centre, Abuja, with the theme: Nation Building; The Role of Election in a Multi-Ethnic Context Background.
He says, “The reason why we are celebrating President Jonathan for many other reasons is that, in the search for peace, he made sacrifice. If we take that peace which he donated but if we refuse to do justice, the next person may not do it. What we need to do therefore is to do justice. This election will come and go in the same ritual of fear and war and rumors of war.”
“I think we must go as a nation beyond just saying the target we set for ourselves is peaceful election, which is too much of a low bar. What happens the day after the election?”
The SDP presidential candidate added that the 2023 elections should be one where Nigerians unite to bring in a new leadership that can advance the country beyond where it is.
Prince Adewole Adebayo was accompanied by his entourage; Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, Mulikat Adeola, Pst Ade Alabi, Hon. Richard Oriri and Chief Godwin Osigbeme.
Other presidential candidates invited to speak at the event asides SDP Prince Adewole Adebayo were H. E Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate, PDP, H. E Bola Asiwaju Tinubu, Presidential candidate, APC, and Mr Peter Obi, Presidential candidate, Labour Party.
The event provided an opportunity for various stakeholders to examine how the Nigerian democratic space has evolved over time, discuss the trends and threats to inclusive and peaceful elections and canvass strategies towards nation building that will consolidate the Nigeria's 23 years of democracy and sustain a culture of peaceful elections.

The dignitaries present at the event were H. E Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Chairman, West African Elders Forum, ECOWAS Council of the wise, Patience Jonathan, former First Lady of Nigeria, Ms. Ann Iyonu Mpi, Executive Director, Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, H. E Douye Diri - Governor, Bayelsa State, and others.

2023: Refrain From Relying on Atiku's Moles, Comrade Iyere Caution Peter Obi

Comrade Kennedy Iyere is an ardent supporter of Peter Obi and a foremost champion of the struggle  for the actualization of Igbo Presidency in 2023. He is a widely known youth mobilizer, humanitarian activist and frontline social entrepreneur, whose social  influence cuts across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, the diaspora community and other foreign frontiers.

According to Comrade Iyere, he is worried about the recent visit of Peter Obi to Governor Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, especially in view of the way and manner the visit was undertaken. He believes that the reason behind such a visit  should be made known to the youths of Nigeria, who in their millions have selflessly borne the costs of launching Peter Obi into his present political fame.

"Today, I am one of the biggest mobilizers of youths for Peter Obi just the same way I had laboured in the past championing the selfless struggle for  the actualization of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023. This is a cause to which I have dedicated the past three years of my life and till date, I have invested my money in large chunks and also my time, strength, social capital etc. Therefore, I won't allow anyone's reckless blunders, to cost us the  victory for which the youths of Nigeria have arduosly laboured, I won't tolerate such mistakes from anyone, including Peter Obi himself", said Iyere.

Iyere affirmed that youths are currently making efforts  to move Nigeria away from the old political order where the cabals would handpick, impose and install their own selected candidates. He reiterated that in 2023, youths are determined to reclaim their stolen government from the ruling cabals of APC and PDP, hence they have adopted Peter Obi, as their preferred candidate of choice. He said that over the past four months,  Nigerian youths have passionately and resiliently  demonstrated that they have the force and the capacity to positively compel and enforce the political victory of Peter Obi in 2023.

He therefore questioned the rationale behind Peter Obi's apparent alignment with Ugwuanyi, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Nnia Nwodo and other Enugu PDP cabals, buttressing that Obi's association with these pro-Atiku PDP cabals and others like them, is bound to derail him. Iyere said, it is like using a long spoon to eat with the devil. According to Iyere, these men are never to be trusted and for Peter Obi, ignorance won't be an excuse. "Peter Obi needs to explain to Nigerian youths, the reason for his  suspicious visit to Ugwuanyi in Enugu and also his close association with Okwesilieze Nwodo, Nnia Nwodo and other key PDP cabals, who are core Atiku's loyalists ", affirmed Iyere

Iyere advised Nigerian youths to open their eyes and ensure that Peter Obi is protected from the deceptive political schemes  of some elites of the APC and PDP, especially political elites from Enugu and other States across the Southeast, who today are on the move to derail Peter Obi. "This is not the time to keep quiet and trust blindly, unless we want either the APC or PDP to retain power in 2023", says Iyere.

Iyere further remarked that  youths control 71% of the country's voting power. He cautioned that Peter Obi should realize he can only become president in 2023 through the dedicated  protest votes of young Nigerians who are already tired of the 23 years of fruitless political leadership  of the APC and PDP.  He advised Nigerian youths to stay with Peter Obi, as he still remains the best man for the job at the moment. But Iyere, insists that Peter Obi needs to be careful of franternizing further with PDP elites whose intentions is to derail him and cause him to lose the confidence of Nigerian youths, on whom lies his strength. Accordingly to Iyere, these PDP elites are 100% loyal  to Atiku zero percent loyal to Peter Obi.

"Peter Obi must realize that we are the ones spending our own hard earned money, time and other personal resources to push his political ambition, while those Enugu PDP cabals and others like them are being paid by Atiku to work for him. This is why Peter Obi must be mindful of his alignment with the PDP cabals who are his so-called fake allies", says Iyere.

Iyere further cautioned  Peter Obi of the danger of ignoring his demand for caution  vis-a-vis bonding himself with Governor Ugwuanyi, Okwesikieze Nwodo, Nnia Nwodo and other core PDP elites. He said that Okwesilieze Nwodo is a BOT Member of the PDP and also a Deputy Director in Atiku Presidential Campaign Council. According to Iyere, Peter Obi alliance with the Nwodos will certainly favour Atiku.

"Peter Obi should realize that we have chosen to support  him because of our common determination to create a new Nigeria and that does not mean we should be taken for granted. Any attempts to further ignore my advice could push me to  shift my support elsewhere and I hope he knows the consequences. I am very influential among Nigerian youths and also among the elites. I have the capacity to take away more than half of his youth followers. He should listen to those of us who are his true heroes, else I shall be compelled to shift our loyalty elsewhere", Iyere said.

Future Of Democratic Governance In Nigeria Will Be Decided In Cities - Professor Adamu Ahmed

Absence of dedicated city level administration in Nigeria and weak urban planning are threatening democratic governance and sustained economic growth.

The position was made by Professor Adamu Ahmed, guest speaker at the 2022 Town Planners Day celebration of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, FCT Chapter under the theme Strengthening Sustainable Urban Governance in the FCT.

According to him, “negative externalities of liberal democracy are most pronounced in Nigeria’s poorly governed cities, where the combination of economic inequalities, demographic change and dehumanising urban conditions, are creating growing resentment and a decline in optimism about politics and western styled democracy”.

Acknowledging the recent creation of metropolitan management authorities in Kaduna State as very welcoming, Professor Ahmed acknowledged the efforts of Governor Nasir el-Rufai for his leading role in raising the bar with innovative policies for urban management, stressing that it is the path to ensure Nigeria takes full benefit of the opportunities in urbanisation.

He further noted that the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council being the first city level management agency established in the Country in 2004, needs to take the next step in consolidating gains, by strengthening inter agency coordination and civil society partnerships, in ensuring that the development trajectory of the Federal Capital City is more efficiently managed.

He called for urgency in mainstreaming cities into national planning, something he says must be the priority of parties and candidates in the 2023 elections.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Chapter, TPL Mustapha Mubidiyu noted that transforming cities into sustainable living spaces depends on effective urban planning and governance, urging stakeholders in the built environment to braze up to new challenges of managing Abuja’s rapid growth amidst scarce resources.

In his message to the event, the National President of the NITP, TPL Olutoyin Ayinde noted that refusal to recognise physical planning as the bedrock of sustainable development needs to be reversed by all tiers of government, to ensure that the opportunities in urbanization are effectively harnessed.

Northern Elders To Madhi: Your Conduct Distasteful, Provocative

...say video capable of inciting ethno-religious tension

...accuse him of hate speech

...call on security agencies to arrest, prosecute

...ask Northern voters to disregard Mahdi's call

...insist Peter Obi statesman, pan-Nigerian

Some Northern elders have called out one Shehu Mahdi over a provocative video that has gone viral on the social media, wherein the so-called human rights activist was seen de-marketing a presidential candidate from the Southern part of the country.

In the video, the Katsina-born activist was seen urging Northern Christians not to vote for Christian Candidates from the South, particularly the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr.  Peter Obi, purporting that a vote for him would amount to a vote for Biafra, and a secessionist.

Madhi further claimed that Northerners -  both Christians and Muslims -  are being discriminated against in the South East , South West, and South South, hence his despicable outing.

In an angry reaction to the development, the Coalition of Northern Elders For Peace and National Unity (CNEFPNU), described the disposition of Mahdi as "distasteful, provocative, and capable of inciting ethno-religious tension".

While insisting that the outing constituted hate speech, and fake news, the elders called on relevant security agencies to arrest, interrogate, and where culpability is established, prosecute him, to serve as deterrence to others, who may contemplate such infamous path especially as political parties would soon commence their campaigns.

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Prof Abdulkadir Mohammed Gummi, National Secretary, Hajiya Hadiza M. Gwazo, the elders maintained that the position of Madhi was a brazen attempt to incite Christians against Muslims in the North on one hand, and Northerners against Southerners on the other.

"As responsible Northern elders, we view the video by Shehu Mahdi, as a deliberate attempt to instigate ethno-religious tension in the country, hence our call on relevant security agencies to take him in immediately for questioning.

"We further enjoin our people to disregard the provocative comments made by Mahdi, even as we urge them to vote for presidential candidates of their choice, devoid of ethnic, religious, or political consideration.

"May we also clarify that, having followed Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, for a long time now, and we can say, without equivocation, that he is a detribalised, and patriotic Nigerian, who has the interest of the ordinary people at heart", the statement read in part.

According to the patriots, by calling out Northern Christians and urging them not to vote for Obi, Madhi has inadvertently demonstrated that Christians in the North should be held accountable, should an unpopular candidate from the South emerge as President in 2023 .

The statement reads:  "This would mean that Christians from the North would automatically become  targets of disparaging remarks and violence .

"Secondly, Mahdi's charge is laced with a lot of tribal and religious slur aimed at causing disaffection between Northerners and Southers, Northerners against Igbos and Northerners against South east in general.

"In an election period and in a period when Northern Nigeria is going through a very turbulent period, what the North needs is unity in face of all odds and not a campaign of calumny against any one or region .

"As far as the coalition of Northern Elders Forum for Peace and Unity is concerned, Peter Obi was duly certified and cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), the Department of State Security ( DSS ) as a Nigerian who is eligible to contest for any elective office.

"INEC which cleared Obi did not not say that the Labour Party Flag bearer is a Biafran. The DSS did not come out to say Obi is from Biafra and these organisations are headed by Northerners. Nigerians should be asking Madhi to tell them how he came about his allegations against Obi .

“Mr. Peter Obi is running to be President of Nigeria and not President of Biafra or Igbos or Southern Nigeria. His ambition according to him is to guarantee economic prosperity and security for all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, tribal, or religious affiliation.

“The Peter Obi campaign is broad-based and all-inclusive. His track record of inclusivity is not in doubt. It is callous for anyone to accuse Peter Obi of running to represent the interest of Biafra. Peter Obi is running to represent the interest of all Nigerians".

It was the contention of the Forum that the current  insecurity, untold hardship, economic deprivation, among other challenges facing Nigerians; with the North worst hit, can only be truly addressed by a visionary and committed leader like Mr Peter Obi.

Therefore, it would be foolhardy for any one to tell Northerners to vote on tribal, religious or regional basis again.

"We as a group would encourage Northerners to scrutinise the economic blueprints of all the Presidential candidates and then choose who has the competence to bring about a positive change,  for us in the forum we taken our stand with the wave of a new Nigeria that's about to be birthed, a position we will make public soon.

"Similarly, Northerners should interrogate the achievements of all the contestants before choosing who should lead them. What Northerners should not do this time around, is to vote on religious or regional lines as Madhi is advocating", the statement concluded.

Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone: Odds Favour Lawal Adamu Usman

Mike Odeh James

He is not the typical politician that hypes on fathomed achievements which do not glorify or better the lot of citizens whom they are supposed to uplift .
Similarly, he is not the type of political icon that thrives on  campaign of calumny, nor involves himself in tirades against political opponents.

The Mr.LA or Mr.Lawal Adamu Usman is the Peoples Democratic Party's  senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone in the coming general election in 2023.This won't be the first time, MR.LA is gunning for the ticket .

In 2019, he after pulling out of the All Progressive Congress, he ported to the PDP and emerged as the party's flag bearer . At the election proper, he beat Senator Shehu Sani of the People's Redemption Party to a third place while loosing narrowly to Senator Uba Sani of the APC .

Lawal Adamu had alleged that the PDP won all the 23 local government areas of the state but was rigged out.

Many political pundits agreed that that Mr.LA actually won the election in 2019

Having gone through the due process of the law, Lawal Adamu moved on. However, he was never far away from the people of Kaduna and Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone .

In 2020 , the state government under the leadership of Nasiru El Rufai increases the tution fees of all the tertiary institutions in the state by 100 percent .As a result, many of the students dropped amidst protests from their parents .In stepped LA,he promised succour for students who could not pay their tution fee.

On June 29, Lawal Adamu Usman popular called Mr.LA, redeemed his promise by paying the school fees of 100 indigent students of state owned tertiary institutions in the state.

The beneficiary were students from Kaduna State University (KASU), Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Zaria and College of Education, Gidan Waya in Kafanchan.

Adamu Usman said over 10,000 students had applied for the scholarship but they were able to provide for 100 students in the first batch.

According to him,”the foundation earmarked N30 million for the scholarship this year.Next year, we hope to increase the amount to N50 million in order to accommodate more students.”

“We have commenced payment of the beneficiary student’s tuition fees with the scholarship. We are paying N107, 000 for returning students and N150, 000 for new students,” he said.

Before then, at the height of the onslaught by Covide-19 and the resultant lockdown by the Federal Government,  Lawal Adamu Usman, bought food and other relief materials worth  N10 million for people in Kaduna North Local Government Area.

He said the items were his stimulus package to aid constituents of the seven local government areas that made up the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

Just at the time he donated N10,million to Kaduna, the PDP chieftain also donated another N10 million  through the Mr LA Cares Foundation for the purchase of food items to be distributed to 81 Wards of  the seven Local Government Areas of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone.

According to Comrade Mohammed Dahiru Umar, Mr.LA actually spent over N100 million  each for Kaduna North and Kaduna Central Zones .

Comrade Umar, went on to say that Lawal Adamu Usman has always had the masses in his mind .

"If you noticed, even though Mr.LA is not yet a senator, he has done more than many senators have done for their constituents .

"The masses are always close to his thought , Umar added

Similarly the PDP chieftain has touched lives of millions of people in his constitency , Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone either through his empowerment scheme or through the Lawal Adamu Foundation.

Comrade Umar believes that another advantage that his principal had over his closest rival is the fact that he is younger than most of the his opponents. "

"He is in his 40 , outgoing and very sociable .if you look at the average age of the voters, you would know that those that would vote would prefer younger candidates such as Lawal Adamu Usman

Mr.Ovyeh Alkau a Kaduna based financial expert could agree more with Comrade Umar . He went a step further to act, even the female voters are going to be queuing behind the PDP candidate.

"During our last town Hall meeting last week in Sabo Kaduna, most of those that attended were young women , middle aged women.
They attended based on the fact they see Lawal as some one closer to them in age and he would have their ears when they speak.
Above all, they feel that Lawal would bring about good policies that would better the lot of women than the other candidates

" It is light of all these that our women are determined to convince other women to join the fray in voting Lawal Adamu Usman, he added .

With the absent of Senator Shehu Sani and Uba Sani of the PDP and APC from the Kaduna Central zone election come 2023, the coast is much clear for Lawal Adamu to emerge as the Senator representing  Kaduna Central . Mr LA has the advantage of being the most popular of the all the contestants in the race .
He is also the most liked going by his constant selfless services to the people in his constitency .

Another factor that would help his race to the upper legislative House is the ruling APC in Kaduna State  has over the past years implemented policies that have pauparized the masses most of them who would be voting in the 2023 general election.

APC candidates would definitely be at the end of the voters anger while Mr LA who have over the years cultivated the loyalty of the people the would be the major beneficiary of the the harsh policies of the Governor Ahmed El Rufai administration

In the run up to the 2023 Presidential polls, PDP presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar is mostly to win Kaduna State, similarly , a vote for Atiku would also translate to a vote for the PDP candidate for Kaduna South Senatorial candidate - Lawal Adamu
.
While not taking anything away from the candidates of the APC, PRP and the LP in the race for Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, Mr Lawal Adamu Usman do have the upper hand .
Going by the current trend, he is bound to be the next senator of the zone .

There can not be better candidate than Belel to represent us-NNPP Loyalist

Adamawa Northern Senatorial District has been described by a New Nigeria people's Party (NNPP) card carrying member Mr Peter Kwada Tumba an area with high chances for his party to win.

He said the Party is gaining ground and growing like a wild fire dominating the zone in a very unprecedented manner because of the candidates the party is having for the coming 2023 election.

According to him Dr Abdullahi Dauda Belel is now the talk of the town with many people considering as their candidate to vote for in the coming elections as their Senator.

"What I'm seeing Sir, there can not be better candidate than Belel to represent us, the Man is gaining grounds and getting the acceptance that is beating my own imagination.

" I'm only calling on more support from my Michika people to give him the needed support for a chance to go for us. He deserve the seat this time around and the only way we can show him our love and support is our votes to count well in his favor." Kwada said

The NNPP Man described the 2023 general elections as a unique type and everyone is sensitive of candidates not a party.

He said party politics is dying in Nigeria and the electorates have discovered that party politics is no more paying well the dividends of democracy.

Kwada said it is on this premise that Dr Belel stand up tall in getting the winning from the electorates who are with the mandate to plant and uproot candidates of their Choice.

CAN Condemns Kidnapping Of 43 Christians From Kaduna Church, Says Development Brings Back Sad Tales

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly  condemned  the kidnapping of 43 worshippers at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in a Kaduna community, alleging that despite the victory songs by security agencies in recent times, attacks by terrorists in communities have continued.

“The victory songs should be lowered down until the fight and the battle are completely won. We don’t need to sing songs of victory because these criminals are on the move and are still having their way,” Rev.Joseph John Hayab, Vice President of CAN in the North has said.

Rev. Hayab who is also Chairman of the apex Christian organisation in Kaduna State, said in an interview on Tuesday September 20,  that security agents should go after these criminals until these worshippers are rescued and returned to their homes.

“We also appeal to people in Church that it’s not enough for us to think that all is well now and go into our church without taking measures,” he said.

According to him,” the kidnap of worshippers who went to participate at the All Night Worship of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Kurmin Juwa of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State; Kurmin Juwa is a community just behind the market at Kasuwan Magani, came to us as, I won’t say shock but disappointing. At a time we are thinking that progress is being made, we are back to this sad story.”

“Because on that fateful night; it was a Wednesday, these bandits took away 57 people .Some escaped on the road and as I speak to you now,43 are still with the bandits and they are demanding a huge sum of 200 million.”

“That’s to tell you that on the side of us and security, we are also to be careful. Let’s not jump and be making statements too early, jump and celebrating victory too early.
Let’s continue doing the best we can do in carrying out this war until victory is assured because the enemies of the people and the enemies of the state are still strategizing to cause pains.”

“As a church we pledged to continue to give the support we know how to give in telling what we know so that it helps the security agencies in addressing this matter.
But I think we should use more discretion in handling this matter, the way things are at this moment.”

“The victory songs should be lowered down until the fight and the battle are completely won. We don’t need to sing songs of victory because these criminals are on the move and are still having their way.
57 people or 43 people are not just 3 people, they are a whole community. We feel sad about it.We condemn this in totally and we appeal and call on the government to urgently do something and ensure that things like this don’t continue to happen because the more things like this happen it creates fear in the mind of people. It creates confusion and makes people to continue to doubt any other story they are going to hear. The assurance that all is well is been questioned now.”

“We should go after these criminals until these people are rescued and returned to their homes. We also appeal to people in Church that it’s not enough for us to think that all is well now and go into our church without taking measures.”

“I’m appealing to all Christians especially in Kaduna State and in many parts of the North where these criminality is still going on, that if we must go to church, if hundred people are in church; there should be 30 people outside who are watching. There should be 10 people outside who are watching ,it could be alternating hours or time for these people who are watching than just go in as if all is well and we have ourselves lamenting on what we could easily help.”
“So it’s not yet over, let’s not be carried away by this story of victory that we are hearing.
Don’t think if you’re outside you’re not part of the worship, the one who sits outside and those inside receive the same blessings.”

Rev. Hayab said government and security agencies must redouble what they are doing and mellow down the celebration until victory is certain.

Based on its promise and keeping to its watch word which guides its operations that is targetted at ensuring food sufficiency in West Africa, within the last 12 months of commencing operations,  ECOBasicSeed   has in collaboration with out growers, established 50 hectares of maize and cowpeas seed across Nigeria.

Managing Director of ECOBasicSeed, Brighton Karume disclosed this during an interaction with newsmen as part of activities to mark its one year anniversary, cat it's corporate head office in Kaduna on Saturday September 17, 2022, just as he harped the need for hybrid in ensuring food security.

"A year ago, we debuted with the promise of bridging the wide gap between foundation and certified seed production in the country as a way of giving our farmers the opportunity to maximize profit, and expand their production with the availability of quality and 100% seed purity.

"With just 6 personnel and an office building, we have been able to transform into an exciting organization working with Out growers to cultivate over 50 hectarage of maize and cowpeas (beans) foundation seed across Nigeria," he said.

According to him, other successes recorded within its first year of existence, is establishment of 60 Demo sites.

"Prolific germination of about 60 different demo sites across Kaduna, Niger and Kano states with about 10 different varieties of hybrid maize including Sammaz 62, Sammaz 63 and Sammaz 68 of drought tolerant and high yield
International Training," he informed.

According to him, the ECOBasicSeed  team  believes that all their individual actions contribute to the bigger picture, one team moving in the same direction hence, the World Class Training is organized abroad for the team to provide an added dimension to both their awareness, skills and professionalism.

"Our business model is a B2B thus our direct customers are registered seed companies in Nigeria.

"To date, seed companies have committed to work by placing foundation seed orders of various hybrids including the new cowpea seed on the market against next year.

"Although our operations are still far from our overall target, we are convinced that with sustained investment, Nigeria will be able to meet its annual maize deficit which currently stands at eight million metric tonnes," he explained

ECOBasicSeed  promised to ensure provision of  quality and genetic purity as well as on-time delivery, standard and professionalism with  value addition at minimum cost.

The managing director stressed that it is important that  farmers reduce their concentration on Open Pollinated Varieties (OPV) and embrace Hybrid Varieties which yield better and has the capacity of leapfrogging Nigeria to the attainment of self-sufficiency in maize production.

"In Africa today, Nigeria is not leading in maize production but grows the largest maize hectarage on the continent and this is hugely due to its inability to utilize the opportunities provided by the introduction of hybrid varieties which enable the farmer to produce more from the same old piece of land.

"Technology now plays a very crucial role in agricultural productivity and hybrid technology brings about improved varieties which is helping farmers in other countries in their quest for food and nutritional security, Nigeria cannot afford to miss out," he said.

He pointed out that as a new entrant to the seed sector in Nigeria, they also get a lot of support from  local and international stakeholders and partners.

"It is my pleasure to address you today as we mark first year of operation in Nigeria. A year ago, we debut with the promise of bridging the wide gap between foundation and certified seed production in the country as a way of giving our farmers the opportunity to maximize profit, and expand their production with the availability of quality and 100% seed purity," he said.

As part of the interaction, ECPBasicSeed led the journalists on a field visit to one of their demo sites along Kaduna-Zaria Highway, where their Supply Chain and Production Manager, David Jethro said that  the maize grown their has proven to be a success, with farmers around the area, trooping in to admire the yeild.

The farmer managing the farm, Abdulrazak Rabiu when explaining, told the visiting team  that the maize was planted ending of June  this year and since then, other farmers in the community have been coming to inquire which kind of variety was planted because of the yeild.

"In less than three months, it is ready for harvest," he said.

Speaking further, he said that if more farmers  embrace the variety, they would get more yeild.
