ANAMBRA 2021 Governorship Election, NOT TIME TO KEEP QUIET, ANGRY ELECTORATES RAISES ALARM. ACCUSES ABDULSALAMI LED PEACE COMMITTEE OF COMPROMISE

The people of Anambra state have described the National Peace Committee led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) as a chameleon and compromised. They label the group as inconsistent to their published objective of ensuring peaceful election and electioneering.

In the last one month, Anambra State has become one of the major news highlight both in conventional and social media. Kidnaping, killing and other forms of violence generally believed to be politically motivated have become a daily bread served to the rather peaceful people and residents of the state.

One among the numerous killings is the cruel murder of Dr. Chike Akunyili, an illustrious son of the state, philanthropist and the beloved husband to Late Prof. Dora Akunyili (former Director General of NAFDAC and Former Honorable Minister for Information).

This insecurity, which the people of Anambra State believe to be politically orchestrated in view of the coming gubernatorial election of November 6, 2021 is big and painful enough to draw the attention of the National Peace Committee, chaired by General Abdulsalami Abubakar. It is expected that a group such as this will be the early vanguard in condemning activities that are clearly heating the political atmosphere and threatening the conduct of peaceful, free and fair election.

Anambra people are however not happy with the disturbing silence of the General Abubakar led National Peace Committee and other civil society organizations in the face of the lingering political tension in Anambra State. Opinion poll conducted by the recently launched “Save Anambra Situation Room” largely shows that the people are angry and have vowed not to receive the General and his team, including Arch Bishop Mathew Kukah should they continue to play the perceived compromised 11th hour peace accord for the gubernatorial candidates and their Political Parties.

Their belief is that General Abubakar has already compromised and has therefore decided to play a deaf ear to the boiling political atmosphere widely believed to be in favour of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Andy Ubah. This is a move they described as highly unacceptable with a vow to resist the team with their kangaroo late minute peace accord.

However, some are hoping that the General and his team will as a matter of urgency, act positively to ensure a free and fair election come November 6, 2021.

The Save Anambra Situation Room therefore advise immediate action and intervention by the General Abubakar led National Peace Committee to avert looming violent resistance by the angry youth of Anambra State against his proposed visit to the state. On that note, we therefore recommend an immediate intervention within the space of twenty four hours.

Caveat: This solemn warning should not in any way be undermined or ignored because of its inherent deadly consequences.
To be fore warned is to be fore harmed. Please note that the core objective of the Save Anambra Situation Room is to track and reveal (report) potential and existing threats of violence and fraud with a view to enforcing a peaceful and credible electoral processes in the fort coming Anambra gubernatorial poll. This goal is designed to be achieved through the pragmatic engagement of citizen journalists and media community.
