YCE's Alarm: Yoruba Council Condemns Divisive Publication On Disowning Serikin-Hausa/Fulani Stools

*says it negates principles of reciprocity, peaceful cohesion, national development

The apex Yoruba interest group,  Igbimo Apapo Yoruba  Lagbaye in a swift reaction to correct the misconceptions on the divisive spiral media publications by the former President of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Chief Col. Dansaaki Samuel Agbede (Rtrd.) on the state of insecurity and influx unidentified Fulani youth in Lagos State and other parts of Southwestern States.

The President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide (Igbimo Apapo Yoruba Lagbaye) Aare Barr. Oladotun Hassan in his reaction signed by the Publicity Secretary, Otunba Gboyega Adeoye,  used the opportunity to call for peace, unity and concerted sober reflections by all Nigerians.

It said that predicated on the rising spate of kidnappings, community invasions and killings of Igangan, Ekiti, Ondo and Yewa part of Ogun State, not forgetting its ripple effects across the country, one will feel concerned as a stakeholder to caution the Lagos State Government, the Oba of Lagos and other critical stakeholders to be extra vigilant and be more security conscious accordingly.

"However, it is rather uncomplementary to seize the precarious situation to raise an inflammatory statement on the call for the abolition and unrecognition of the stools of Serikin Hausa/Fulani of Lagos or any part of Yoruba Land thereof.

"This is most condemnable and decietfully captioned alarming headlines by majority of the newspapers and blogs inorde to cause traffic and tension, as it was issued by the Yoruba Council of Elders.

"For absolute clarity and records, this is not a categorical statement of YCE, consequently, we hold no personal grudge against the elderstateman but we dissociate ourselves and implore the general public to view the publication as his personal opinion and not for the entire Yoruba race," it said.

The group further said that considering the current porous hydraheaded state of indiscriminate killings, ethnic bigotry and animosity amongst the various ethnic groups, political and religious sections in Nigeria, there is the necessity to be extremely cautious by threading softly in making inflammatory statements capable of infuriating inter-tribal war, aimed at causing more harm than good.

He said, "We detest such Infamous publications which lack ardent professionalism guiding  journalism, it is therefore, a complete misrepresentation of facts.

"Inevitably, we appeal for  genuine tolerance and unity amongst the various ethnic groups, most importantly on the need to extol the principles of communal reciprocity as well respecting  Nigeria's constitution and trite fundamental human rights of all citizens irrespective of creed, religion or ethnic backgrounds to live peacefully and cohabit in any parts of the country.

"Nonetheless,  it is imminent  for the Lagos State Government to set up a special Agency on Inter-Ethnic Relations to regulate the modus operandi on how such non- indigenous groups operates Lagos.

"Unfortunately, we reiterate our stand that Lagos and other Southwestern States belong to the Yoruba people.  In view of our uncommon love and accommodation of other tribes, in order to set records straight, in total condemnation of the incessant frivolous claims by some unscrupulous groups who are in the habit of saying:  "Lagos is a No man's land" or other vexatious statements by such non-indigenous ethnic groups.

"Most importantly to note, some areas in the North and Southern Zones allow for habitation of other indigenous clan representations, as well as their community leaders to operate under different nomenclatures and modus operandi, but it can therefore, be properly regulated by law in order not to misconstrue the title toga as land owners but rather as visitors, arguably not total abolition of the stools of Serikin Hausawa and Fulani, Eze Nndigbo, Oba/Asiwaju Yoruba to mention a few as the case may be."

Aare Oladotun Hassan urged  all Nigerians to pray for peace and harmony for the nation, which is currently bleeding to its marrows as a result of protracted state of insecurity, political instability, religious cum ethnic animosity and attrition, resulting to serious hydraheaded economic disastrous issues.

“We must remain steadfast and committed to the cause of one indivisible and united Nigeria, in order to achieve sustained peace and committed sacrifices,”

Call Yoruba Elders To Order, Nigeria Can't Afford Any Further Breach Of Peace, Arewa Youth Task Governor Sanwo-Olu

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has called on the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to without waste of time, caution the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) from making inflammatory statements capable of setting NIgeria on fire.

AYCF National President, Alh. Yerima Shettima expressed this in a statement he personally signed and made available to our correspondent on Thursday August 26, 2021.

"We have followed with keen interest, the news of an inflammatory remark making the rounds about the Sarkin Fulani of Lagos  and credited to the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE).

"The Yoruba elders, who spoke through a former National President of YCE, Dansaaki Samuel Agbede, asked the Lagos State Government to stop its recognition for the Sarkin Fulani," it said.

The group said that they  are unsettled by this position coming from elders who are supposed be  guardians of the people and should be taking the lead in ensuring tolerance, peace and harmony between the people of Lagos State and their neighbours from any part of the country, moreso Northern Nigeria.

They said that the office of the traditional Sarkin Fulani  of Lagos is an estimated  150 years old and it reflects and represents the general interest of Fulanis resident in the area.

"It was therefore misplaced to see the YCE trying to forcefully liken the estimated 150 year old Lagos case to that of Edo State, which is comparatively new.

"It is evident that for the past 150 years, nothing tragic has ever happened to the relationship between these ambassadors of the Fulani tribes, primarily because of the successful enlightenment strategy in support of tolerance and harmony by the Fulani  monarchy in Lagos.

"Most importantly, there is no law in Nigeria that says another person's crime elsewhere makes someone somewhere automatically guilty of the same wrongdoing," the statement said.

It added that, "If contrary were the case, we in the North would have asked our leaders or governors not to recognize people from other parts of Nigeria  in areas like Kano, Katsina, Kaduna or any State in the region.

"It is for this recognition for the rights of others and unconditional tolerance that you can find Yorubas, Igbos and other Nigerian monarchs being accorded due respect and formal recognition in every part of the North. For us, tolerance is a necessary ingredient of unity and harmony," it said.

AYCF  emphasized that these traditional leaders of the Fulani are no more than ambassadors of their people, representing the beautiful cultural and religious heritage of their people.

"The historical and cultural values of the Nigerian Fulani  can be gleaned from their presence (in more recent times) in France. Germany, the United States and other parts of Europe.

"This example is simply a proof that no society thrives without men and women of goodwill to serve as the custodians of their people's culture and development concerns," it added.

They therefore,  advised the YCE to tread cautiously on the issue because it represents a potentially dangerous proposition

"We urge the Lagos State Government to quickly intercede in this matter by calling the YCE to order, to avert an avoidable breach of peace built over a  period of an estimated 150 years

"We are compelled to draw attention to the YCE's position on good time in order to elicit appropriate constitutional and legal action to maintain the tolerance, harmony and respect for the historical and cultural values that have held these Fulani  as good neighbours.

"We insist that this is one sure way to avert a potentially regrettable decision being propounded by the YCE.

"We are disturbed by the YCE's latest campaign that seeks to obliterate the respect and recognition of the Sarkin Fulani monarch because of the current situation in the country, notably the security challenge.

"We also find it quite childish that the YCE is making a fuss about illegal immigrants in Lagos, something that should be an issue for the either the NIA, the Nigeria Immigrations Service and the DSS. By the way, how does such a purely security issue connect to due recognition for the Sarkin Fulani?"  It queried.

The statement said that YCE  got its facts all twisted because there is so much disconnect in most of the issues they raised.

"We don't support any  action of intolerance, capable of further worsening the nation's security challenge. It is our candid view that the YCE needs to be cautioned from potentially inflammatory declarations that could breed division among Nigerians in Lagos, who have been living as understanding neighbours for some 150 years.

"We take exception to any motive that could lead to undue interference with traditional and cultural values of a people in a democratic setting. This, we dare say, is a ticking time-bomb," it said.

AYCF said that they are aware that the Lagos State Government has well-enlightened cabinet members who won't condone any move that could lead to a breach of the peace and we hope they rise to the occasion.

"We don't think Governor Sanwo-Olu would condone such a dangerously divisive stand of the YCE, considering the importance of tolerance and harmony that has made Lagos the economic and commercial giant of this country for many decades," it concluded.

Gov.Masari Will Not Resign Says Arewa Network of Social Reformers

By: Mayen Etim

KADUNA, North-West, Nigeria -
The Arewa Network of Social Reformers, (ANSR), has kicked against the call by the Katsina State chapter of the coalition of Northern Groups, (CNG), for the resignation of Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, over his comments on self defense, describing it as uninformed.

The President of ANSR, Engr. Musa Idris, stated this at a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday.

Engr. Idris who was flagged by other members of the Executive Committee of ANSR, said they join other well meaning patriots and citizens of Katsina state to salute the courage and boldness of the Governor, saying, "it is indeed morally wrong for people to submit to bandits without any form of attempt to defend themselves.

"The ANSR took exception to the called by the CNG. We feel it is preposterous to ask a constitutionally elected Governor to resign. We are not holding brief for Katsina State Government nor are we the mouth piece of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, but we need to put some matters right," ANSR stated.

The group added that, "The indiscriminate killings, kidnappings and attacks orchested by bandits on innocent citizens in Katsina State, should be the concern of all and sundry in the State.

"The job of securing the lives and property of the citizens cannot be left to the government or security agencies alone.

"The job requires the citizens to support security agencies, through intelligence gathering, including traditional, religious and political leaders, who must engage more with people to restore normalcy in the beleaguered state, because the bandits stay amongst us, the criminals live with us.

"Without adequate security, there cannot be any meaningful development and economy of the State. The pressure should be directed to appropriate authorities to see to the end of the security challenges.

"The efforts by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, in curbing banditry and kidnappings in Katsina State cannot be overemphasized. It is with this determination that persuaded the Governors of the Northwest to make him the Chairman of their security committee.

"We therefore appeal to the Federal Government to increase the security presence as well as give the security agencies necessary logistics support towards addressing the security challenges facing Katsina State," the group added.

"The U-19 leaving on 19 August. No funds no official is going, they are only going with the coaches. The only resources available, we had to channel into the players and coaches. So far, we have finished all arrangements for the U-19.

"They were in Tunisia for U-19  world championship," he said.

Nimrod explained that currently, NIgeria is leading Volleyball ranking in Africa, alongside Egypt, followed by Cameroon.

"NIgeria is strong and  other countries are scared of us in Africa," he said.

On the present players, he explained that the NVBF had to scout for them for from the zonal competition recently held across the country.

"We went down to the zones, put in resources and came up with brand new female U-18 players.

"I stand by the female U-18 players because we look forward to a brand new national team.

"A lot of them started from the National Youth Games. We are glad we stood our grounds that NYG should feature only U-15 and it has paid off," he added.

He however, appealed to corporate organisations and public spirited individuals to come and support the teams.

"Even the tickets are expensive, none in cheap, with support, NIgeria will do better," he added.

While fielding questions, Head Male U-19 coach,  Sani Mohammed Musa said that as African champions, they are set to take on the world.

"We are African champions back-to-back so we hope to Surpass our 2019 record.

"We would leave on Thursday, for now our camp is good, no injuries, the children are disciplined, no cases of indiscipline," he added.

2023, APC, PDP under moral Obligation to Zone Presidency to South- Comrade Kennedy Iyere to Dokpesi

On the 13th August, 2021; news reported by The Cable, an online news portal,  quoted Chief Raymond Dokpesi to have demanded that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should zone its 2023 presidential ticket to a Northern Candidate, as the only way the Party will stand a chance of producing the next President in 2023.

He also said that the The All Progressives Congress, APC is under moral obligation to cede its ticket to a Southern Presidential Candidate in 2023.

In his frank reaction, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, who is an internationally-acclaimed humanitarian activist, donor-fundraiser and social justice crusader, blasted Chief Dokpesi and advised him to desist from playing money-making politics, especially at this stage in life, where he has attained the age of 70.

He went further to point it out to Chief Dokpesi and the general public, that both the APC and PDP are strictly under moral obligation to zone their presidential tickets in 2023 to a Southern Candidate, stating that it is the turn of the Southern region to produce the next Nigerian President, following Buhari’s straight 8 years in Office, as a Northerner.

“It is a surprise that at age 70, Chief Dokpesi still cannot stand for what is right, just because of his appetite for money-making politics”, said Comrade Iyere.

He went further to accuse Chief Dokpesi of betraying his own people of the southern region by publicly staging a media coup against southern presidency in 2023.

“I am sure he is doing cheap media publicity for someone from the north, who may have promised, to yet again pay him some billions of Naira, as usual, for electoral media campaign in 2023. With such a huge promise, Chief Dokpesi opted to betray his moral conscience because of his inordinate appetite for financial gains. He is one of the crusaders for money politics since 1999.

He is obstructing the wheel of justice by his unpatriotic act of coming out openly to  defend 2023 northern presidency, being fully aware of the existing consensual agreement on rotational presidency, which invariably compels the need for  southern presidency in 2023, after Buhari’s straight 8 years,  as a president from the northern region”, those were the words of Comrade Iyere.

Those calling for northern presidency in 2023 do not mean well for Nigeria, whether they speak from the point of illusion, knowledge or ignorance, said Comrade Iyere. He went ahead to point out that such reckless demands will only further worsen the suspicion of the perceived attempt by the Fulani elites to renew their age-long political domination over the southern and middle belt regions.

“Unless there is political equality in place, Nigeria will never be united. Therefore, the need for 2023 southern presidency is non-negotiable. Over the past years, Chief Dokpesi has used money politics, as a tool for accumulating wealth, but now is the time for him and others like himself, to retire and stay out of the political arena”, said Comrade Iyere.

Comrade Kennedy Iyere, is the Coordinator of the Civil Society Committee for Anti-Fraud Election Security (CISCAES), an anti-corruption electoral integrity and democratic transition monitoring action committee, whose mandate is to compel the conduct of peaceful, transparent and credible elections in Nigeria.
“With CISCAES in place, elections in Nigeria, will not remain business as usual. Therefore, Chief Dokpesi and many others like him, must at this point, realize the fact that Nigeria has 18 political parties, not just APC and PDP. In 2023 the voting masses will decide who will be their President. Neither APC nor PDP will determine the winner of the 2023 presidential election but the voting public”, said Comrade Iyere.

Again, in his own words, Comrade Iyere asserts that “CISCAES will compel a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process in Anambra State, in relation to its forthcoming 2021 guber-poll holding in November”. He also affirmed that CISCAES will fight to ensure that the ongoing electoral amendment bill shall be passed with the inclusion of electronic transmission of results.

“Those who believe there will be no electronic transmission of results in 2023, are only wasting their time. In weeks and months to come, CISCAES shall launch a red card campaign against the parliamentarians who are opposed to electronic transmission of results”, Comrade Iyere added.

Ebonyi 2023: Indigenes reject zoning, campaign for competence, credibility

Ahead of 2023 governorship election in Ebonyi state, indigenes of the state under the aiges of Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in Diaspora (AESID) have rejected zoning agreement, saying competence, capability and credibility should be the standard for anyone to succeed governor Dave Umahi.

The group said: "Ebonyi people truly deserve nothing but the best, most credible and competent hand it can get from any part of the state who understands the prevailing challenges of anthropogenic poverty, lack of human empowerment, health and educational deficiencies arising from poor policy planning and executions among other negative trends and its attendant consequences on our people."

In a statement released to newsmen by its President Amb. Paschal Oluchukwu, Thursday in Abuja, said the campaign in the media by some interests to respect ‘charter of equity’ does not exist.

"As various political parties in Nigeria gear-up for congresses at the Wards, Local Government, State and National levels, it has become indubitable that political activities have raved up as expected with many analysts and pundits fully up in their game.

"Whereas, the situation is not any different in Ebonyi, the calls in some quarters for the mediocre acts of zoning of political offices have once again been brought to bear in the debate over who succeeds Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi in 2023. Those who engineer this  premise their position on what they term equity and fairness in their delusional fantasy to keep an ‘equity bond’ that neither exists nor has ever been manifest in Ebonyi politics.

"As a governance and accountability platform, AESID feels very strongly that it is also part of our core mandate to bring unbiased analysis on political debates in our dear State, not only putting the records very straight but also picturing the future that Ebonyi truly deserves.

"Having remained the most outstanding accountability platform in the State with our memberships drawn across the entire State, we would not watch a section of self-interests seekers, paid political permutators, jobbers and hatchets men mislead, misdirect or misinform Ebonyi people as they battle to choose a credible and competent leader who would take-over the baton as Governor David Nweze Umahi’s successor.

"It bothers placing properly on record that the so-called, non-existent ‘charter of equity’ which some rented script writers are bandying in the media does not exist and people from the three Senatorial zones of the State have equally vied for the coveted position of the Governor of the Salt of the nation.

"In our deep reflections, we recall that in 1999 when Dr. Sam Egwu from the Ohaukwu axis of Ebonyi North Senatorial zone ran for Governorship under the PDP, current Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu of Ebonyi South also vehemently contested for the same position under the defunct All People’s Party, APP.

"Similarly, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu of Ikwo origin in the Central axis contested against Sam Egwu in his quest for a second term in office in 2003 under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance. This time under ANPP, Dr. Onu also later came back to the ballot in 2007 to vie for the same position eight years after in the election to pick a successor to Egwu which was eventually won by Chief Martin Elechi of the PDP who hails from Ikwo in the Central Senatorial zone of the state.

"In 2011 when Elechi sought for another term in office, Senator Julius Ucha of the same Central zone under the ANPP also contested against him. The records of political events in the 2015 Governorship election are still very fresh in our mind as Labour Party’s Edward Nkwegu who hails from Izzi in the North ran strongly against PDP’s incumbent Governor David Umahi from the South who emerged as the winner of the election.

Owing more to the fact that by what could be justified as divine providence, the three Senatorial zones despite these contests have all tasted power via the occupation of the Governorship seats in the state, it is therefore wisdom for Ebonyians to anchor their search for Umahi’s successor on the tripod stand of competence, capacity and credibility which would ultimately translate into such a leader’s ability to reverse the numerous growing negative statistics and economic woes that the current government of Umahi has brought upon our dear state.

"Besides, power as such analysts should have been aware by now only comes from above and it is never given but taken. Much more than the zone of an aspirant, AESID would, we reiterate implore Ebonyi people to continue to study the records in and out of office of any contender and place same side-by-side with the prevailing challenges facing the young state and seek out for only those who can reverse the negative indices."

While urging the youths in Ebonyi to get more involved in the political process by joining political parties, the group also called on all Ebonyians of voting age who are yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration and proceed to register and get their PVCs ready "as that is their only power to change the narrative in 2023 and elect a credible candidate."

Bade LGA Left Out Of Seat On Yobe Executive Council, While Jakusko Has Three

By; SALE ABDULLAHI DUMAI

The fear of an ethnic group or few states to dominate the political governance of the country was the reason behind the enclosure of the federal character's principle in the 1999 constitution of the federal republic.

The nationalists who were the architects of the drafting of federal document tried to ensure that appointments to public service and institutions fairly reflect the linguistic, ethnic, religious and geographic diversity of the country, made sure that appointments and recruitment to military and paramilitary institutions are equally and evenly distributed.

This arrangement that has ensured relative peace in the federal setting, seems to be eluding Yobe State, the state governed by the ruling party's national interim chairman, a state with almost one religion and culture. It is of cause the first since the return of democracy to the country in 1999 that this format is failing in the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni the fourth executive governor of the state, is no doubt an astute administrator. His ascension to the pinnacle of leadership of his ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) when the party was in crisis.

Also the enviable peace he has brought the party, attest to his dexterity in administration. Doubling the management of a ruling party affair with his statutory function as a sitting governor, is one thing that has surprised even tested technocrats in the country.

However, his ignoring the imbalance of distribution of commissionership appointment among all local government areas in the state, is an unexplainaeble oversight that even his admires and foes daily battle to fathom with.

Yobe State has 17 local government areas and all these council areas are all represented in the state executive council as commissioner with a local government while one of the local government areas, enjoys three slots in the state executive council, Bade Local Government is either forgotten or something unexplainable happened that it is not represented in the state executive council with a commissioner.

It maybe  an oversight that one of the serving commissioners that resides in Bade may be believed to be from the local government but it's not true.

For instance, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Mohammed Gagiyo only resides in Bade Local Government but not an indigene of the local government.

Let the record be made clear that Abdullahi Bego, Jaba Ward, and Hajiya Mairo Amshi from Zabudum/Dachia Ward and the said Mohammed Gagiyo of Girgir/ Bayam Ward are all from Jakusko Local Government Area, all enjoying  plum position of commissioners while Bade Local Government watches without a representative in state executive council.

Some analysts are of the view that there's either no qualified person in the local government for appointment as commissioner, or that the local government never voted for the governor hence the reason for the development.

If this views being peddled in some quarters is not the reason for Bade Local Government sin for denial for position of commissioner, then it's time for the people's governor to be a father of all in the state and remember Bade Local Government to be represented in the state executive council because as it is observed many years ago, "What is good for the goose, is good for the gander."

Bauchi State University Transformed To World-class Standard - Staff

Mike Odeh James

Staff of the  Bauchi State University Gadau, have praised the Vice Chancellor, Auwalu Uba for what they described as an all-around transformation that has   seen the university grow from a glorified secondary school before his assumption, to a worldclass Institution of higher learning.

Speaking separately when our correspondent took a tour of the institution on Friday August 6, 2021, the Dean Students Affairs, Dr. Sani Babayo Yana said that the students’ hostels were non-habitable before the coming of Prof. Uba.

"The hostels were renovated and interlock tiles installed to make them neat and habitable.

"An old abandoned cafeteria was also demarcated and converted into female hostel to reduce pressure and encourage girl-child education," he said.
On his part, Director of Physical Planning, Bauchi State University, Arch Aminu M. Umar said under Prof. Uba, the students and the staff of BASUG have been able to access easy means of transportation as the VC has been able to secure the purchase of various buses.

Arch Umar listed the vehicles purchased as follows:

"Two 2017 air-conditioned, brand new Eighteen Seater buses at the cost of N7.5 million each through auction from the Nigeria Customs Service.
"One 2018, air-conditioned, brand new Eighteen Seater bus at the cost of N8.2 million through auction from the Nigeria Customs Service.

"One Toyota Avensis wagon at the cost of N300,000 through auction from the Nigeria Customs Service. It was allocated to the Dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for ease of transport.

"One Toyota Lexus jeep at the cost of N2.5 million through auction from the Nigeria Customs Service. The vehicle is in the pool of the University.

"1 brand new Toyota coaster bus purchased TETFUND through the Special Intervention Fund (SIP ) at the cost of N60,000,000," he informed.

Still highlighting on the laudable achievements of Prof Auwalu Uba, according to the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Yahaya Katagum, he said that the laboratories are now up to global standards.

"We have built and equipped six laboratories with the modern and state-of-the-art equipment for the new Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

"Also within the period that this Vice Chancellor assumed office, all our offices have been furnished with refrigerators, TV sets, internet facilities and others," he said.

For the Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Adam Noma,  he said their products are now sought after.

"Before the coming of the current VC, the university was only a fashion institution but with his coming, the nucleus of the school took shape," he said.

He further explained that,
"The School of Postgraduate Studies which he established started with 37 programmes across four faculties.

"Nine of these programmes are  PhDs, ten are MScs and MAs, ten PGDs and four are professional masters.

'Therefore, I can say that it is Prof. Uba that birthed and nursed BASUG into relevance, he declared.

Our correspondent also visited the four campuses of the institution starting from Yuli Campus, down to Gadau to the Faculty of Agriculture in Jamaare and the Faculty of Law in Misau.

In contrast to certain reports that that varsity lacked facilities and services such as internet, alternative power supply, potable water and access roads, at each campus, our correspondent observed that there were  solar panels and solar powered batteries which were meant to generate electricity in case of power outage. Noticeable too, were other sources of alternate power supply such as Lister Generating Sets at each campuses

By and large, there were solar powered  boreholes and water tanks reservoirs that could hold thousands of litres of water for staff and students spread across all the campuses.

One of the staff of the University attested to the fact that before the coming of Prof. Uba, the water supply to all the campuses were epileptic and in most cases, campuses could go on for weeks without water, or make do with buying of water from itinerant water tankers.

Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Karamba, the former Dean of the Faculty of Science confirmed that before the coming of Prof. Uba as VC, they used to buy water from vendors in jerry cans and bring into the Faculty for flushing their toilets. "However, we now have boreholes that supply water to all the campuses," he added.
