The absence of wage justice contribute to the persistency of violent conflict's and proliferation of arms by armed groups in many hotspots around the nations.
This statement was made by Professor Tukur Abdulkadir department of political science Kaduna state university (KASU) in commemorations of "international decent work day"organised by Nigerian labour Congress Kaduna state council recently held at NUT Secretariat in Kaduna.
According to the professor Tukur, "the international labour organization (ILO)standards in the field of wage's cover four basic aspects; the protection of workers claims in the event of the employers insolvency by means of a privilege or through a guarantee institutions, the protection of wage's including principles and rules concerning the medium, periodicity, time and place of wage's payment, deduction from wage's or the preferential treatment of wage claims in case of bankruptcy.
The right to a minimum wage and the regulations of the operations of wage fixing machinery, and the protection of socially acceptable wage rates in public procurement through the insertion of labour clauses in public contacts.
He however explained that, " the Nigerian labour Congress is also view a major challenge with government in enshrining good labour laws that would make workers live decent life by earning sufficient wage's to care their families, they also discusses the notion seeking wage justice in the face of hyper-inflation and prevailing high cost of living in Nigeria.
"One of the most glaring effects of absence of wage justice is the deepening wage inequality and it's attendants wage consequence,the unjust order has unleashed torrent of mental, physical and other psychological problems on the working class,general state of disillusionment, lack of motivations and labour unrest have become some of the other major elements of lack of Justice".
The lecture presenter also noted that, the introduction of IPPIS, single treasury account (TSA)and centralized payment platforms in many States in the federation have failed to provide the necessary bulwarks against corruption, the recent disgraced revelation the outrageous theft of the nation's money by dismissed former accountant general Ahmed Idris alias Amadu Maikanti is another point of view.
Earlier in his welcomed addressed the chairperson Nigeria labour Congress Kaduna state council comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman,said " I'm delighted to welcome you to yet another year event for celebration of international decent work day 2022,with the theme; "wage Justice" the Congress observes in compliance with the policies of the international trade Union's confederation (ITUC)takes places on 7th day of October each year".
"Decent work is the employment that's respects the fundamental rights of the human person as well as the right of workers in terms of conditions of work safety and remuneration, respect for the physical and mental integrity of the worker in the exercise of his/her employment".
He however expressed that," the theme of this year is apt,unique and very relevant to the contemporary and the presence economic situation in our dear country and beloved stage, the recent emergence of high number of Young graduate as casual worker's in our ministries,department and agencies is alarming".
"The global deficit of 575 million jobs must be closed, fundamental workers right must be respected, discrimination must be replaced by equality, social protection must be extended to all an inclusive world economy".
The chairperson also called on the worker's representatives to take the campaign serious by taken proactive action through organising advocacy and direct engagements with government, corporate organization and employers of labour on the importance of wage justice and decent work for decent life for economic growth, peace and development in our state and country at large.
