The lingering leadership tussle in the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) seems to be coming to an end as the Chief Shonibare and Dr Abdul Isiaq groups held a meeting to reposition the party.
The meeting held on the 9th January, 2022 and lasted for two hours saw the two group leaders coming to terms on the way for positive development in the party
In a communique issued after the meeting and signed by Chief Engr. Simon Adeshina, the both sides recognise the need to harmonise the progress of SDP particularly considering the forthcoming 2023 General Election.
The communique added that the two groups is desirous of bringing confidence back to members of the party and the general public interested in SDP to take over power at all levels in Nigeria.
The communique further stated that both groups shall ensure that no group is marginalised or disadvantage in the proposed arrangements.
"That the two groups shall set up a caretaker committee soon to pave way for a true National convention within the time limit set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).
"That the two groups will be willing to admit more groups into SDP who believe in the manifesto and programmes of the Party.
The two groups enjoin INEC not to give recognition to the present faction occupying the secretariat henceforth there is no basis for it.
