Senator Set To Eradicate Disparity Between HND, BSC Certificates

The Nigerian upper legislative body, the Senate is set to eradicate the disparity between holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor of Science/(Bsc) certificates.

This was made known  by  the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, Senator Ahmed Baba  Kaita while speaking to newsmen at his office in NASS Abuja.

The  lawmaker expressed concerns that holders of HND certificates have suffered various discrimination which led the Senate to push a bill aimed at curbing such discrimination.

Kaita said, " It is a well-known fact that there is discrimination against holders of HND certificates by people in the society. Unfortunately, it is a recurring decimal since time immemorial,"

He also added that, "this discrimination comes in form of lack of promotion as at when due. And it is to that effect that Senator Ashiru Lere came up with a motion to eradicate such discrimination and adopted as a bill."

The Senator also revealed that  Nigerian university officials are not against the eradication of the disparity between holders of HND and Bsc, but   are worried the regulatory bodies of the universities and polytechnics would harmonize their curricular to fit into the proposed changes.

However, the Senator also revealed that observations of the university officials is being taken care of.

"The university is not against the HND being placed at par with the Bsc holders, but their main concern is  how  the harmonization between the bodies that oversee the universities and the polytechnics can take place," he added.
