The Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Yusuf Zailani, today inaugurated the opening ceremony of The Governor El Rufai Peace and Unity Championship where the Steering Commitee Members where unveiled.
Speaking on Behalf of the Speaker, the Special Assistant on Human Services and Social Development, office of the Speaker of the House, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim Arab, said that "a sum of N25 million has been set aside as prizes to be won for all the four sports of Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tracks and Fields".
The Speaker also said that,
"All the 23 Local Government Councils are hereby advised to key in and support this laudable project if his Excellency, Mal .Nasir Ahmed El Rufai.
The Speaker also presented the trophies to be won to the members of the steering committee, advising that the the program be designed to also capture the girl child.

Responding, the Chairman steering committee, Dr. Ahmed Tijjani Yusuf said that, there are job creations whenever there is competition, adding that sports improves economy of every State.
According to Dr Yusuf, banditry and other criminal activities will reduce in Kaduna state, adding that sports brings unity in a nation.
He also said that, the championship will take the youth off the streets.
He said ” in less than 6 months Kaduna indigenes will be playing professionals all over the world because of this championship”.
Yusuf lamented that, the main challenges in the competition is transport, we need at least 3 buses for the 3 senatorial district, he said.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Adviser on youth, sports and culture to the Speaker, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, said that history has been made because of the championship.
Hon. Adams said that, ” we are trying to give back to the society, 2300 jobs is to created”.
