Development Peace Initiative Presents Fertilizers To 40 Families In Makarfi
In its bid at ensuring sustained livelihood as well as boosting food security, an Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Development and Peace Initiative (DPI), has presented fertilizers to 40 indigent families in four communities in Makarfi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
The benefiting communities at the presentation held on Wednesday January 27, 2021 in Makarfi, include Ungwan Sanda, Ungwan Geri, Durum and Tafida.
In his remarks at the presentation ceremony, Director Development and Peace Initiative, Joshua Yima Achir explained that the distribution is supported by Christian Aid (CA) UK Nigeria in partnership with Development and Peace Initiative.
Representative of the General Manager, Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency (KADA), Yaya Mohammed Ahmad in his remarks at the event, commended Development and Peace Initiative and partners, Christian Aid for the gesture.
He said the Kaduna State Government looks forward to such noble gestures that better the lives of its citizens.
Also speaking, the Village Head of Durum where the distribution took place, Alh. Mohamed Kabiru Yahaya expressed gratitude to the NGOs for deeming it fit to include his subjects as beneficiaries.
The partnership support project between CA and DPI titled ECID COVID-19 Response Project is aimed at responding to the impact of COVID-19 in hard-to-reach poorer communities in Jaba and Makarfi LGAs of Kaduna State.
The project started in September, 2020 and has so far trained 176 key stakeholders on how to make hand sanitizers and enjoin best hygiene practices.
It also created awareness on safety precautions to the general populace in each of the communities across the two LGAs.
The six months project intervention has been working with critical stakeholders like the traditional and religious leaders at the grassroots, sensitizing communities on the COVID-19 pandemic, adopting available mechanisms and supporting vulnerable groups and their livelihood potentials, while collaborating with other ECID partners in engaging with government to proffer solutions on COVID-19 challenges and advocating for the implementation of reforms that would boost the economy.
The distribution of fertilizers is targeted to widows, the aged and people with disabilities to reduce the hardship being experienced by this category of people who suffer most in the communities.
