Abdul Isiaq emerges SDP National Chairman, as NEC suspends Agunloye, Gabam



Former deputy national Chairman (North), of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq, has emerged the new National Chairman of the party.

The National Executive Committee(NEC) unanimously approved Dr Isiaq, as the New National Chairman and Engr Simon Adewole Adeshina as the New National Secretary.

According to the NEC, the illegal suspension of Dr Abdul Ahmed Isiaq and that of Kano Chairman Alh. Ado Bello was thrown out and were restored to their various positions ante. This allowed them to be admitted into the NEC meeting before it went further. 

Equally, the suspension of Alh Kolawole Balogun elstwhile Oyo State Chairman and Dr Webster Okwonko, the Anambra State elstwhile Chairman was lifted immediately and other suspensions were also lifted immediately.

The NEC which held in Abuja on Saturday, suspended the acting national Chairman, Dr Olu Agunloye and national Secretary, Shehu Gabam.

The two party leaders were alleged to have committed various abuses of the constitution.

The NEC also accused them of cornering the fees for expression of interest and nomination forms paid by the party's governorship aspirant in the recent Anambra State election, Obinna Uzor.

A communique of the party stated that; "The NEC considered the various abuses of the constitution by the following underlisted officers and therefore agreed by majority to suspend, Alhaji Shehu Gabam and Dr. Olu Agunloye."

The NEC at the meeting discussed various issues concerning the Party and observed as follows; "The wanton disregard to the provisions of the SDP constitution especially Article 12.5.1(iv); 12.2.2(viii) and Article 19.4 to suspend some officers from the Party."

The NEC added that it is desirous of reversing the ugly trend and has resolved to do so.
